I was stationed at Wheelus in 1959 as a control tower operator and remember hearing the stories about the “Lady” being found. As I recall, one of the base rescue helicopters made the trip out to the site and told us about it. Can’t imagine what the crew must have gone through, Lt. Toner’s Diary was a tough read.
