From time to time, we find things among the archives holdings that are so unexpected that we just have to share them!
The following images come from a series of maps that are currently in the process of being digitized to be added to the catalog. The maps below all contain examples of doodles and drawings found on maps and texts in the U.S. file unit of RG 77: Civil Works Maps File (NAID 305566). Some of the drawings, like the one immediately below, are very detailed and labelled, and some are much less so, being little more than stick figures. Others appear to have been made by someone practicing their signature, and at least two of the drawings look to be designs for someone’s personal monogram.
